Viewer Update and updates
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

Hey guys!

I have received some positive feedback on the viewer.  I have also received some harsh criticism, which was expected.  I've run the game long enough to know my community, and you guys didn't disappoint. ;)

Please understand that this implementation of this viewer is not a cheap one.  The price I have already spent rivals a brand new SUV.  Suffice to say, I just don't have the sorry of money lying around to get everything done at once.   Moreover, internet loaded apps are extremely tricky to render properly; the limitations are much greater than CPU based software.   We're going to have to grow into this viewer.

I don't have the 3D graphical skill to do that now nor do I have the time to learn.  We have a small user base that is very generous but, until the game can prove monetarily feasible enough to make more expensive additions, I simply can't add them.   It's not that I don't want to; I do.  But I just cant.

I will, however, get a formal list of  “wants” together, and run it by the developers.  They will price it and I will let you guys know the exact price.   That will give us something to shoot for together as a community.

Trust me when I say : we're all in this together.  There is no one in this game that wants a perfect viewer more than myself.  But I am in a unique position to understand the hurdles (financial and technological) better than most, so maybe my short-term expectations are lower.  I also realize what we currently have in place is, gutwise, very close to what we want long-term.  I can promise you, however, that there is no one in the game with higher long-term expectations than myself and, thusfar, I am very pleased with what we have.

New viewer problems? Try...
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

If you are having trouble with the new viewer...

Go to this page :

http://unity3d.com/webplayer/

..and downoad the Unity Web Player.   You may also need a newer version.

For the record, here are my versions of the plugin and engine, and my stuff works great :

Unity Plugin version: 2.6.1f3
Unity Engine version: 2.6.1f3

Also, the posted requirements for Unity are :

On Windows, the Unity Web Player requires Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7.
On Mac OS X, the Unity Web Player requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or newer.

Thanks!

New Viewer back up for Travelers Replay
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

..and races after it (you can use the in-viewer button to move forward after the race).

I'll be adding some more functionality over the next week or two (hopefully tomorrow) to make more races available.

Thanks again for all your patience and understanding this weekend.  The temporary problems will be worth it in the long run I hope. :)

I'll be addressing the new viewer over the enxt few hours; I have it disabled at the moment.

I'll be holding off until about 6:00 PM to run the update.  We gotta get headed into the new week sometime.. :/

Sorry again.

Well.. we're going to run late this week,,,
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

Again.. I apologize...

I had more prolbmes than I realized.  I have some "back-tracking" that has to take place to get things "right."

I tried a few things before my commitments today which, unfortuantely, didn't work out.   I will have to attempt to fix them again tomorrow.  I'm simply exhausted at this point, and realize any attempts to fix things at this point in the evening will turn out badly.

Tomorrow's update will likely occur much later than usual, and definately later than previously stated.  I apologize again, but will keep everyone in the loop.

I had anticipalte this being a great weekend for the game, and am sorry it turned out to be one of the more volatile.  I promise to correct things ASAP.

Ok.. patching it together...
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

Ok.. here's the deal :

Posted results are fine.  Old viewer is fine.  New viewer Travelers results will be fine shortly.

Pulled from a backup yesterday after I ran the results for the week BUT before I started wonking with the viewer.  So we're good there.  Fixed the code not to "reorder" everything before figuring winners, etc., so the update SHOULD be fine.. will take a few hours...

I still have commitments today, unfortuantely, so I won't be able to kick off the upload of results, etc. until likely later on this evening.

Breeding / Bidding / etc. will be extended tomorrow until ~3:00 PM EST.

I am going to try and ensure the same claims that occurred this week hold true.  I don't think that will be hard but, given that I am pulling froma  "pre-claim" time, we'll have to hold our breaths. :)  Auction results should all be the same.

Sorry again.  Good news : we'll have a nice new viewer going forward.. :/

All should be fixed now..
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

Word to all aspiring programmers :

BACK UP ANYTHING IMPORTANT!  IT WORKS! :P

The problem occurred because :

Both old viewers (coker and online) require the horses to be listed in order fo finish to work (since the extract files don't have a "winner" flag).

The NEW viewer does not; results are passed "step by step."  BUT.. the order of post position must be correct.

So a piece of my code reordered the horses.. which is why the winners at the tops of the PPS were correct, but the bottom (after they had been reordered) were wrong.

So I backup the array, reorder, render the new viewer, and set the array back to it's previous order (which is in order of finsish).  tah-dah.

So the fix wasnt hard.. and the backups are fine.

one thing : if you hit and exacta or trifecta today that  paid over $1k sim; you're going to be rewarded much more greatly than the realy payout.  Luck you. :)

Thansk for your patience, and sorry again.  I don't like screwing with the inner workings of game unless really necessary, because things like this can sneak in.  Good news - I won't need to be in there again anytime soon. :)

I'll hang around and verify we're ok, but then it's off to family functions!

One positive.. my backups look ok!
Posted by administrator under DerbyFever.com Blog

..so I'm reuploading results and races.  Whew.  Betting may prove to be a more complicated issue, however...  I'll keep you guys updated...

I may keep my players AND my wife from killing me if I can work fast enough!
